A Bayer-pattern imaging colorimeter uses a color camera and software algorithms to correct luminance and chromaticity values. It works based on color filter arrays and their spectral response characteristics.
In a Bayer pattern, four pixels are combined to generate one effective pixel, which means the actual usable resolution is lower than the sensor’s native pixel count. Although image processing algorithms can increase the apparent resolution, some loss of true pixel information is unavoidable.
Compared with color wheel filter–based systems, which require multiple filter switches (X, Y, Z) to complete one measurement, a Bayer-pattern system captures all data in a single shot. This results in faster measurement speed and lower overall cost, making Bayer-pattern colorimeters suitable for high-speed and cost-effective applications.
